Request for consent for use of trial video material

December 28, 2006

Dear Maria, Dear Katrin, Dear Egle,

For IPR and privacy reasons we need to get consent of those students -and the facilitators- who appear in trial videos to allow us to use them for project purposes. Even an electronic letter signed electronically (the student simply types her name at the end of the letter) will do. The easiest is to make it an email message.

Below is a text I prepared for this purpose.

To who it may concern,

This is to declare that I, …. (full official name of student), give my consent that the video material with my appearance produced as part of the iCamp project trial conducted in 2006 may be used for video production, may be distributed, may be published on electronic media including Internet and may be shown publically for dissemination purposes in full or partially for non-commercial purposes strictly related to the iCamp project and that the iCamp consortium has the right for such use.

(date)

(full name)

(full address)

Please explain this to your students and and ask them to send such an email message to you or to me.

Best,

Selahattin

Diaries, Evaluation, etc.

December 27, 2006

Dear iCampers,

This is a check list to remind you some final tasks in the trial:

1)Communication diaries: Did you fill all communication diaries? Please check once again and fill them if there is any miising on your part.

2)Final questionnaire: Like at the beginning, you are expected to fill a questionnaire at the end of the trial. Please donot forget to do it.

3)Evaluation: As you know you are to assess the questionnaires developed by all other groups and you are to assess your teammates. You will be using an excel sheet for this purpose. Information on how to do the assessment and the excel sheet are available on the pedagogical support blog. We ask you to complete the assessment by Decamber 29, that is this Friday. So please hurry up.

4)Trial video: We want to do some video recording of the trial. Your facilitator knows about it. Please think about it and come up with good ideas for your part in the video. Please also note that we will ask you to give us your written consent for us to use your video. Again, your facilitator knows about it, so ask her.

By the way, as you see I call you iCampers, a term we use for anybody who is somehow involved in iCamp.

Once again, happy new year!

Selahattin

‘To do’s before evaluation

December 20, 2006

Hi,

In our previous message and posting we explained how you will do the evaluation.

Here is what should be done step by step to make your questionnaire accessable for viewing byother students so that they can do the evaluation.

1)One member of each group need to login to your google docs account as collaborator,

2)After clicking on your questionare, you need to click on the “Publish” button at the left most side of the page.

3)After the page refreshes it self, you need to select, “Publish document” under the text of “This document not published yet”

4)When the page refreshes itself, you will get a link to your published
document, copy this link

5)Then you need to login your del.icio.us account

6)Click on “Post” link at the top of page,

7)Enter your link, type your group name to the Description part like “Group WP1’s survey”

8)Type “icamp1 surveys” to tag part.

9)Then submit your subscription, that is all !

10)You can view your and other group’s surveys under the link
http://del.icio.us/tag/icamp1+surveys

Please do not hesitate to ask if you get any trouble.

Support Team

Evaluation

December 20, 2006

Hello again.

The task of creating the questionnaire has been successfully completed by all groups. We the facilitators thank you all and congradulate you all.

We hope you have learned a lot as well as have had a good time working together in international groups.

We hope you keep in touch with each other and strengthen further your friendship in the years to come.

But there is one more task to do, the evaluation. We ask you to take part in the evaluation process.

What we want from you is to

-evaluate the questionnaires produced by other groups, and

-evaluate the individual performance of your team mates in your group.

For the valuation of the questionnaire we ask each of you to evaluate each and every questionnaire produced by other groups as follow:

You evaluate

-the theme of the questionnaire

-the design of the questionnaire, and

-the implementation of the questionnaire.

For the theme of the questionnaire you base your evaluation on the following qualities (criteria): how interesting/innovative is the them, how relevant it is to e-learning, how significant a theme it is, how clear is the goal, how clear are the specific objectives, how clear is the target group

For the design of the questionnaire: how well it maps with theme, how well it covers all aspects of theme, whether all questions can serve as good indicators of the topic

For the implementation of the questionnaire: how good is the wording and the English, how good is the layout, how good is the structure and the organization, how good is the look and feel in Google docs, how friendly is the questionnaire

So each of you will evaluate seven questionnaires produced by other groups.

For the evaluation of the individual performance of your team mates in your group we ask you to evaluate on an individual basis the activity of your team mates as follows:

You evaluate

-availability, participation and activity in communication within the group by e-mail, Skype, flashmeeting, blog and so on

-contribution to the design of the questionnaire (contribution to determining the theme, setting up research questions, producing questions for questionnaire, etc

-activity in setting up the group blog, document(s) in google docs, etc. (that is work done on electronics medium using the tools)

Please do your marking for both evaluations using a scale of 1 to 5 where 0=none/does not exist, 1=poor, 2=weak, 3=moderate, 4=good, 5=excellent.

Please use the excel.JPG attached sheet for this purpose and send your marks to all your facilitators using email. The email addresses of your facilitators are:

Katrin Niklas: katrin@tlu.ee

Maria Nawojczyk: maria@list.pl

Egle Butkeviciene: egle.butkeviciene@ktu.lt

Selahattin Kuru: kuru@isikun.edu.tr

We ask you to complete the evaluation and send us your marks the latest by Friday December the 29th..

Note that WE WILL DO ANOTHER POSTING on how you will access the questionnaires of other groups.

After the whole process of evaluation is completed you will receive information about your evaluation from your facilitator.

Do not hesitate to contact us (say by email) if you have questions on the evaluation scheme.

Your trial facilitators

Nearing the End

December 8, 2006

Hi groups,

We are nearing the end of the trial. Here are some remarks at this stage.

1)According to what was announced at the beginning the design of the questionnaire was expected to be completed at the end of last week. Facilitators decided to extend the deadline to end of this week. There will be one more week to go for polishing the final work. That is the hard deadline is the end of next week for completing all work on the questionnaire design.

2) Facilitators are working on designing an assessment scheme to evaluate your performance in the trial. The assessment will be based on the quality of the questionnaire you will have designed and your activity level during the trial.

3)Maybe the assessment scheme will also include peer evaluation. That is, you will evaluate the performance of your mates. Each of you will do two assessments: One will be the assessment of the questionnaires designed by other groups (you will evaluate all groups). The other will be the assessment of the performance of your team mates (in your group). We will tell you more about assessment once the scheme is fixed.

4)Please donot forget to fill the communication diaries periodically.

5)Please also be prepared to fill a final quationnaire, one similar to the one you filled at the beginning.

Best,

Selahattin

Group’s progresses

November 28, 2006

Hi groups,

We are now in the third week of the trial. Please check your group’s progress with respect to the following and take the necessary measures to eliminate any delays.

1) Are you communicating regularly using electronic communication tools (Flasmeeting preferred)? How often do you have electronic meetings?

2) Is your group blog active? Do you use it regularly? How frequently do you use it?

3) Have you determined the theme of your questionnaire?

4) Is the theme of your questionnaire a sound one? In other words, is the high level goal of the questionnaire clearly defined/stated? Are the specific objectives clearly defined/stated? Are the target groups clearly defined/specified?

5) Are you using Google Docs and Spreadsheets already?

6) Did you start working on the details of the questionnaire? That is, its structure, sectioning, questions, etc.?

7) Are you using Google Docs and Spreadsheets in developing the questionnaire in a collaborative way?

8 ) How do you do task distribution among group members? Are you having any problems?

9) Are you having any problems? In communication? Any inactive members? What are you going to do to overcome these problems? Do you discuss them with your facilitator for help? Do you consult the technical support people and the pedagogical support people?

Once more, good luck..

Selahattin

Reminder: Online communication diaries

Google docs and spreadsheets

November 22, 2006

Hi goups, You are now entering the phase of building the questionnaire. As you know you will be -preferably- using a shared workspace for this. This is Google docs and spreadsheets. This is a collaborative document production software. It is just like MS Word except unlike in Word you can share your documents with your group mates and you can develop your documents working together on the same document with your group mates. It also has additional advantages like versioning, richer export import facilities, immediate publishing on the web, etc. You are expected to develop your questionaire by creating a document for your questionnaire using Google docs and spreadsheets and working on it collaboratively with your group mates to improve it. I encourage you to use Google docs and spreadsheets right from the beginning in order to get the most out of it. Remember that each site has a techical support person/team and you can always ask for help from them. Good luck, Selahattin

Let’s do some planning before design

November 20, 2006

Hi,

What are the step to design the questionnaire?

There are different ways to go about it. Here is a structured way of how to go about designing the questionnaire. It is based on doing some initial thinking (planning) rather than going directly to designing specific questions of the questionnaire.

I hope you find it useful.

Good luck in your your design effort.

Selahattin

A scheme for questionnaire design

1)Identify high level goalExample: Investigate the effects of e-learnign to the students

2)Identify specific objectives            Example: Investigate behavioral effects of e-learningInvestigate effects on  learning habits.Investigate effects on intellectual capacity.Investigate social effectsetc.

3)Idenfity target groups            Example:            University students (undergraduate9            University students (graduate)            Secondary school students            Professional learner            Aged and life-long learner

4)Identify structure             Example:            Separate sections for each specific objections            Each section (for a specific objective) has a set of general questions and a set of questions on a target group basis

5)Identify length            Example: Approximately 5-10 questions in each sectionTotal 20-30 questions

6)Identify phases of development, conduct and analysys            Example:            Identify goal, specific obejctives and target groups            Determine Structure, approximate length            Determine questions in each section            Finalize and upload onto electronic questionnaire tool            Test run and validation            Actual run            Analysis            Present results

7)Identify development and delivery media and tools            Example:            Electronic questionnaire (delivery, conduct and analysis will be done using an electronic questionnaire tool)
